Sylvie inherits an old theatre in the suburbs from her uncle. She teams up with her no-nonsense friend Myrtle and her two handy neighbors – both, confusingly, named Jackie—to revive it as a viable community theatre. The only problem? They have no money and even less talent.
In a desperate bid to get things off the ground, they hire an experienced director named Carl and hold auditions, landing Naomi, a wide-eyed novice, and Lynne, a seasoned diva with no shortage of ego. Unable to afford the rights to a well-known play, they decide to stage Carl’s own script: Pygmuleian—a Wild West riff on Pygmalion, featuring a mule skinner determined to turn a Boston gutter “Snype” into a refined lady.
But behind the scenes, egos clash, plans unravel, and chaos reigns. Full of twists, backstage antics, and laugh-out-loud moments, Backstage Broads is a comedic love letter to the beautiful disaster that is community theatre.
